Petre Mihai Băcanu

Petre Mihai Băcanu was born on 11 December 1941, in Homoraciu commune, Prahova County.
He is a graduate of the Faculty of Romanian Language and Literature within the University of Bucharest.

Between 1959 and 1967, Băcanu worked as editor for the Înainte newspaper in Brăila and for the Viaţa nouă newspaper in Galati. He held the same position at the Amfiteatru magazine (1967-1970) and the România liberă daily (1970-1988).
Between 1988 and 1989 Petre Mihai Bacanu was detained for editing the clandestine newspaper România, together with Mihai Creangă, Anton Uncu, Sandu Chivoiu, St. Niculescu Maier.
Since 22 December 1989 up to the present he has been the executive director of the România liberă daily.
