Radu Ioanid

Radu Ioanid undertook an extensive academic, publicistic and research activity. He was awarded a Ph.D in History by École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales of Paris (1995), a Ph.D. in Philosophy by the University of Cluj (1983) and a Master's Degree in Sociology by the University of Bucharest (1976).

Between 1976 and 1986, he worked as a sociologist within the Institute of Projection for Typified Constructions in Bucharest. From December 1990 until September 2000, Radu Ioanid held various research and managerial positions with the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. He was the vice-president of the International Commission for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania, chaired by Elie Wiesel, from October 2003 until November 2004. Since September 2000 up to present day he has been the director of the International Archival Programs Division with the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.

Radu Ioanid also benefited by a Starkoff Fellowship at the American Jewish Archives, Cincinnati, Ohio. As a researcher, he approached various topics, such as the efficacy of cultural networks in Romania, methods of improving social services in Bucharest, the destruction and survival of Romanian Jewry during World War II, East European Communism or the Romanian Communist Party in power.

Radu Ioanid is, as well, the author of numerous forwards and introductory studies, chapters published in collective books, articles published in Romania and abroad, book reviews and translations. He participated in many conferences and delivered speeches that were published.

Radu Ioanid has good knowledge of English and French.
