Simpozionul Internaţional „Stat şi viaţă privată în regimurile comuniste”, 2008

3rd Edition, Făgăraş-Sâmbăta de Sus, 3 – 5 July 2008

During 3-5 July 2008 took place the 3 rd edition of the Făgăraş-Sâmbăta de Sus international symposium.

This year’s edition represented a continuation of a project initiated in 2006: discussing recent history and offering Romanian and foreign researchers and historians an opportunity for dialogue. This year’s main topic of discussion, “State and Private Life in Communist Regimes”, was approached from different angles. Discussions were held on the role of the state in communist regimes, the interference of the communist state in collective destinies, and on issues of state and private life in other communist regimes.

The project also aimed at drawing attention to a museum project: “The Memorial of Anti-communist Resistance in Ţara Făgăraşului”.

The event was attended by historians from Romania and abroad.

The symposium was organized by the Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes in Romania, the Memorial of Anti-communist Resistance in Ţara Făgăraşului, Bucharest’s University of Fine Arts and the “Mozaic” Cultural Association of Cluj-Napoca .
