Brief biographies of men who passed through the regime's prisons

 

  1. Arşavir acterian, (1907-1997)-lawyer, journalist and writer. Former editor-in-Chief of the magazine "Weather". It was part of a group of intellectuals that included him on Emil Cioran, Constantin Noica, Mircea Eliade, and Eugen Ionescu. He was jailed twice, each time under article 209 of the criminal code, conspiracy against social order. The first time in 1949, when he was sentenced to 3 years of correction, being issued at 21.02.1953 after it had passed through the colonies from the Peninsula (Black Valley) and Nasr City. The second time was arrested in 12.09.1959, Bucharest Military Tribunal convicted to 18 years forced labour and released at 30.07.1964 as a result of Decree 411.

  2. Christina Vasile (1899-1950)-former Archpriest of Bucharest, Romanian Greek-Catholic Bishop at the time of their arrest, in December 1948. It was held first at Villa from patriarchal Dragoslavele and Caldarusani monastery, in order to be converted to orthodoxy. Passed through the Ministry of the Interior and the arrest through imprisonment he was tortured, where he died on 9 May 1950. Data from the inmate were copied after the table Direction prisons, labor camps and colonies.

  3. Aurel Aldea, (1887-1949)-general de Division, Minister of internal affairs in the period august 23-November 2, 1944. He was arrested in 1946 and sentenced to forced labour for life for subversive activity, "Sumanele Negre." Died on October 17, 1949 in Aiud. The cause of death that appears in the inmate is chronic myocarditis.

  4. Valeriu Anania (Bartholomew) (1921-)-orthodox theologian and Bishop. He was the Secretary of Patriarch Justinian Marina and director of the Patriarchal Library in Bucharest. He is currently the Metropolitan of the Metropolitanate of Cluj, Alba, Crişanei and Maramures. He was arrested on 14 June 1958 by the Regional M.A.I. Ploiesti and sentenced by the Military Court of Bucharest by way of 493/1959 to 25 years for conspiracy, forced labour under article 209 of the criminal code. The arrest of Ploieşti, and through the Jilava prison, Piteşti and Aiud. He was released on 1 august 1964, being pardoned by Presidential Decree No. 411.

  5. Constantin argetoianu (1871-1955)-career diplomat and politician. The head of the Romanian delegation was at the preliminaries of Buftea, in 1918. Senator and Minister (of finance, Justice, Interior, Agriculture and Industries) in several Governments. It was he who, as Minister of the Interior (Jun. 1920-December 1921), ordered the arrest of participants in the Congress of the formation of the Romanian Communist Party, in May 1921. Royal Councillor and liberal Prime Minister from 28 September-23 November 1939. He was arrested in 1950 (the lot detained in the so-called "night of dignitaries") and submitted to the Sighet penitentiary, room 12, without conviction. According to the data sheet of the inmate, died on 6 February 1955.

  6. Colonel Gheorghe arsenescu, Peter (1926-1959)-farmer. He drove with his brother Tahir anti-communist resistance movement "Outlaws Muscelului" after Mick's withdrawal. He was arrested on 20 May 1958 security Piteşti (U.M. 0336) and sentenced to death. It called for acts of terror, in accordance with article 207 of the criminal code, the Court of first instance of the region II by Military Decree nr. 107/19.05.1959. He was executed in Jilava penitentiary on 18 July 1959. Interesting is the fact that its card owned and one decision appears with the number 21.07.1959, 86014/subsequent sentence, whereby the Presidium of the great National Assembly rejected the request for a switch.

  7. Colonel Gheorghe arsenescu, Thomas (1921-1959)-Lieutenant of cavalry. Initiator, alongside Gheorghe Abruzzi, anti-communist resistance movement "Outlaws Muscelului", whose leadership will take after its withdrawal. Just like his brother, was arrested on 20 May 1958 by Security. Death sentence was made by the same sentence and for the same facts as in the case of Petre by Colonel Gheorghe Arsenescu, and the sentence was executed on the same day. And his sentence was rejected by the Presidium of the switch M.A.N.

  8. Abruzzi, George (1907-1962)-lieutenant-colonel. Former head of the Office of operations of the Division 20 Vânători de Munte. Wounded in Crimea, was decorated with the order "star of Romania". At the end of the war he was head of the Commission for the implementation of the truce Beirut district. In 1948 he founded the most well-organized group of anti-communist movement in the southern zone of the Făgăraş mountains. He was arrested by the Securitate on 1 February 1960 in Piteşti. The investigation was held up for two years, during which time he passed through Poiana Mare psychiatric hospital-Dolj and Văcăreşti prison and through Los Angeles. Through the sentence of 11/1962 was sentenced to death by the Bucharest Military Tribunal Region for acts of terror, in accordance with article 207 of the criminal code. He was executed on 29 May 1962 at Jilava penitentiary, death being recorded at Jilava commune people's advice under no. 18/30.05.1962.

  9. Nicolae balota (1925-)-writer and literary critic, University Professor. Collaborator of radio free Europe. The first time he was arrested and held by police for a half year in 1949. He was arrested on 2 January 1956 and sentenced by the Military Court in Bucharest through sentence nr. 759/956 7 years public agitation for correction under Article 327 of the penal code. Went through prisons, Jilava, Gherla, Fagaras, Piteşti and Dej. He was released on time on 31 December 1962, and sent home to Lăţeşti in Bărăgan.

  10. Petre Mihai Băcanu, (1941-)-journalist. During the period 1970-1988 was editor of the daily newspaper "Romania Libera". In the late 1980s he founded a dissident group, the "Alliance", which, inter alia, to set up a clandestine printing press where you edit newspaper "Romania". He was arrested on the basis of preventive mandate no. 37/p/25.03.1989, issued by the Prosecutor General, for usury, in accordance with article 295 of the criminal code. The sentencing was handed down by the District Court sector 1 by decision 280/1989, which provided for a penalty of 6 years and 6 months prison, starting from the date of apprehension. Detention and imprisonment were made at Jilava penitentiary. On December 5, 1989 he was elevated by the U.M. 0676 research according to address D/S/299495/89. It was released on December 22, 1989.

  11. Bălăcioiu, E (1887-1960)-Professor, literary critic Eugen Lovinescu's wife and the mother of Monica's Lake. He was arrested on 23 May 1958 and condemned by the military tribunal of Bucharest through sentence nr. 28/1958 to 18 years jail for vicious talks tough against R.P.R, pursuant to article 209, paragraph 2, subparagraphs a and b of the penal code. It closed at Jilava and Văcăreşti then moved to, where he died on June 7, 1960.

  12. Bălan, Ioan (1880-1959)-Archpriest of Bucharest and the Romanian Greek-Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Lugoj. As Vincent Scott, was arrested in 1948 together with all the Greek-Catholic prelates, after banning the Romanian Church United with Rome. Admitted to Caldarusani and then to Dragoslavele, was sent to prison and Sighet in 1950, after the failed conversion attempts. On 4 January 1955, he was sent to arrest at Curtea de Arges, and from there to the monastery of Defender, where he died in august 1959.

  13. Oliviu beldeanu, (1924-1960)-sculptor. One of the leaders of the youth organization of the National Peasant Party. The head of the group that attacked the Legation of R.P.R. from Bern on the night of 14 February 1955. He was kidnapped from East Berlin on 31 august 1958 a group operative Directorate (Foreign Intelligence) of the State Security Department, led by Colonel Aurel Moiş, Deputy Chief D.I.E. (the detainee appears tense 123 km/H). The operation has also participated and Nilesh Nicholas, future head of the D.I.E. He was sentenced to death by military tribunal of Region II Bucharest through sentence nr. 202/31.10.1959 for treason under article 194, paragraph 4 of the Criminal Code of R.P.R. The execution occurred on the same day it was filed at Jilava, 18 February 1960. The death was recorded at Jilava commune people's advice. 12/20.02.1960.

  14. , Aurelian bentoiu (1892-1962)-lawyer and politician. Liberal mp and Minister of Justice during the period 30 November 1939-10 May 1940. Went through two periods of house arrest. First was admitted through the administrative decision on 31 October 1948. Barely six years later was arrest mandate issued no. 22/C/1954 on its name, for the crime of conspiracy under article 209 of the criminal code. He was released on 13 July 1956 under the address no. 6,792/56 the Court Region of the Military. On November 10, 1957 he was arrested again for the same offence, and sentenced by the Military Court in Bucharest to 25 years jail by way of heavy 661/58. He was imprisoned at Sighet, Jilava and Văcăreşti Prison,. He died on 27 June 1962 in Jilava, death being recorded at Jilava commune people's Advice under no. 19/29.06.1962.

  15. Mişu Benvenisti, (1902-?)-lawyer. Former President of the Youth Association in Romania and Deputy Chairman of the party. In 1941 he was President of the Zionist Executivei from Romania. Later, after emigration, came to Israel's Ambassador in Switzerland. It seems he was arrested again in august 1950 and surveys for nearly four years. He was sentenced by the Military Court sentence Bucharest Territorial No. 258/1954 to forced labour for life for the crime of high treason ("gave information from R.P.R. about the political and administrative life of the State of Israel and Zionist activity "), in accordance with article 191 of the criminal code. Jilava prison has gone through and he was tortured. It was issued by Presidential Decree No. 166/14.04.1956 of the Presidium of the great National Assembly.

  16. Blank, Aristide (1883-1960)-banker and writer. Son of Maurice, one of the founders of the Blank, the most important private banks of the Kingdom period, Marmorosch, Blank et co., later a manager of it. Interwar industrialist and one of the relatives of King Charles II. The founder of the airline's Paris-Bucharest and publisher of "national culture", was the owner of the newspaper "morning" and "Truth". He was arrested on 30 September 1952 and sentenced by the Military Court in Bucharest through sentence nr. 334/1953 to 20 years jail for the murder of heavyweight high treason (1944 S.U.A has provided information "), in accordance with articles 190 and 191 of the criminal code. The Military Prosecutor's Office arrest Bucharest and Piteşti prison at Jilava and through. It was released on April 29, 1955 under the address no. 13576 Territorial Military Tribunal of Bucharest, produced as a result of rejudecării and payment.

  17. Matei Boilă, (1926-)-member of the P.N. a.þ. Since 1945 and exiled activist Movement students. Greek-Catholic priest in 1977. After 1990 he was head of senator and vicar of Cluj. He was arrested in 1947 for several weeks, after which he lived hidden for two years. On 14 December 1952, he was arrested again and sent to Cape Midia, for a sentence of one year and three months. In May 1953, reached in Jilava, being filed with the arrest warrant No. 87/1953 for machination (art. 209 of the Criminal Code). From hand-outs shows that on January 1, 1956, he was arrested again with the mandate no. 10/B/1956 for public agitation and sentenced by the Bucharest Court through sentence nr. 759/1956 to 10 patch. Has passed through the Prison, Gherla and Botoşani and through the colony from Willow. He was pardoned on July 29, 1964 as a result of Decree 411.

  18. Boldur-Lăţescu, (1929-) Professor. Univ. Dr. in economics, engineer and writer. Professor of the Academy of economic studies in Bucharest. In 1949 he was arrested and convicted by sentence No. 1287/950 by the Bucharest Court for murder of subsidence of the constitutional order in accordance with articles 207 and 208 of the criminal code to social degradation. The description of the offence was "tentative departure in the mountains for the resistance". Went through Piteşti prison at Jilava, and colony at Periprava. He was released on 12 May 1951 on the basis of the address no. 30448/951.

  19. Brătianu, Constantin (Baba) c. (1887-1956)-doctor of law and politician. Deputy Minister of war Production (4.11.1944-6.12.1944). He was the general Secretary of the Romanian delegation at the peace conference in Paris in January 1919, the Communists coming to power found him as general Secretary of the National Liberal Party. He was arrested on 6 May 1950 (later Memorial will remain as the "night of dignitaries") by the Direction of the Prosecutor General with the mandate no. 20/C/01.09.1954 (!). The deed for which he was charged was intense activity carried out against the working class during the "regime of the bourgeois-landlord" and invoked article 193 of the criminal code was. There are no worksheets in the judgment of conviction. It was held by the Ministry of the Interior and the Malmaison, and he was tortured and detained at Sighet. On November 30, 1956 was sent to Sighet, he was tortured but died on 21 January 1956 in Colţea hospital. Death certificate has the M.C. series and nr. 370,555.

  20. Gheorghe i. brătianu, (1898-1953)-historian and politician. Professor and academician. He is the son of Ion I.C. (Ife) Brătianu. He was arrested on 6 May 1950 ("the night of dignitaries") and imprisoned at Sighet prison without having been tried and condemned in advance. He died in prison on April 27, 1953, the Act of death having M.C. series and nr. 370,581. The death was recorded on the advice of the Popular Virginia Beach under no. 131/20.07.1957 (!).

  21. Gheorghe calciu-Dumitreasa, (1925-2006)-Orthodox priest and dissident. He participated in the creation of the trade union organization in Romania in 1977, and in the 1980s protested the demolition of churches. He was arrested in 1948, when he was a student at the medical school, the legionary activity ("activity against the working class", art. 193 of the Criminal Code) before august 23, 1944. Through sentence nr. 148/1949 was sentenced by the Military Court in Bucharest to eight years jail for conspiracy, heavy; 209 of the criminal code. He was involved in "reeducation" at Pitesti, being judged and sentenced in 1957 in the torturers, by sentence No. 155 the Court Region II Military Bucharest, to 15 years forced labour, for the crime of conspiracy. It was released on 18 May 1963 with the words "expiry of the sentence" and sent home. He was arrested once again in 1977 and sentenced to 10 years in prison, but was released in 1984 and allowed to immigrate to S.U.A. as a result of international protests.

  22. Mircea Cancicov (1884-1959), economist and politician. Professor and honorary member of the Romanian Academy. He was Minister of finance in 1937 and Minister of Justice from March 1938-January 1940. He was arrested on 5 October 1946 and sentenced by the Supreme Court through sentence nr. 1510/1948 to 20 years jail for heavy war crime. In fact it shows that "being Finance Minister, took part in Romania's joining with Germany, selling goods of the country and contributed to the start of the war". Passed through the prison, he was tortured and Râmnicu Sărat, where he died on Christmas day in the year 1959.

  23. Sydney, Das (1879-1964)-philologist, literary historian and critic. Professor and member of the Romanian Academy, former student of Titu Maiorescu's. He was Minister of national education. Arrested on May 5, 1950, in the most important group of former officials and servants of former regimes ("dignitaries"), was sent to Sighet prison. Take 71 years and prison card list a long string of illnesses, gained in detention: "insomnia, tachycardia, chronic bronchitis". As in the case of other officials arrested in the same batch, the sections concerning the term of arrest, judicial sentence and punishment are empty.

  24. Nicolae carandino (1905-1996)-writer, publicist and politician, farm. He was director of the National Theatre, vice President of the journalists ' Union and one of his relatives Iuliu Maniu. During the period 1944-1947 he was Director of the press head, justice. It was one of the four members of the leadership, and rehabilitating P.N.. elected by Iuliu Maniu to leave the country in order to create a core of Romanian resistance in the West. He was arrested on July 14, 1947 in the aftermath of the incident at the Tămădău affair, when he tried to flee the country, on the basis of the mandate for arrest No. 105,491. The sentencing was handed down by the military tribunal of the region of Bucharest, by sentence No. 1988/11.1947, for plot and treason (article. 184 of the Criminal Code) and 207. The punishment was 6 years jail. He was imprisoned at the Prison and Sighet (51). Seven years later, by order No. 007i789/10.06.1954 was established in the village of arrest Ruble-Bărăgan, where he was transferred on 14 June.

  25. Caan, Virgil (1908-1984)-poet. He was arrested on 10 November 1956 by Direction from M.A.I Surveys. for machination social, according to art. 195 of the criminal code. The real reason he was attending a literary circle that unfold into the House of his wife Kimberly Şeicaru. He was sentenced by the Military Court in Bucharest through sentence nr. 474/1957 for public agitation under Article 327 of the penal code, a 5-year-old prison correctional facility. Went through prisons, Jilava and Aiud Prison, and through the work of the colony at Periprava. He was released on 8 November 1963.

  26. Victor cădere (1891-?), doctor of law, Professor at the Law Faculty of Cluj and career diplomat. He was part of the Romanian delegation at the peace conference in Paris in 1919 and was the head of the Military Mission to the far East (1920-1921). He represented his country as a diplomat in Warsaw, Belgrade and Lisbon. Among others, he was Secretary general in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Royal resident in the lower Danube. He was arrested on 7 October 1952 and interned by the D.G.S.S. by order No. 60107/1952 espionage and foreign ties, as it had been under the Antonescu Government Minister Plenipotentiary in Portugal. As late as 1956, the region's Military Tribunal II Bucharest issued the sentence whereby 1332 was sentenced to 5 years in prison, for which it was ordered but non-performance. He was imprisoned at Jilava and Sighet. It was released on 20 September 1956.

  27. Radu câmpeanu, (1922-)-lawyer, former President of the National Liberal Youth. Was a leader of Student Committee organizing the anti-Communist demonstration on November 8, 1945. After 1989 he was President of the P.N.L. and the Presidency. Was admitted by decision 169/1950 to 12 months, the reason being membership in the past at P.N.L. Was kept closed until 19 august 1953, when he was an established home forcefully. Went through prisons and Ghencea, Craiova and through the colonies, Popeşti-Leordeni Daytona Beach and Cape Midia.

  28. Kagome, Tit Liviu (1904-1955)-Greek-Catholic priest and Professor, doctor of philosophy. Rector of the Theological Academy "Holy Trinity" of Blaj and Bucharest's endeavour. He was ordained a bishop in his Dungeon of la Caldarusani, in December 1949. Had the same fate as other Greek Catholic Hierarchs, was imprisoned in October 1948, in the priests, and kept several years in Allied captivity at Neamţ Monastery at Caldarusani, and to the purpose of Dragoslavele be converted to orthodoxy. He was imprisoned in Sighet, the 44 room, where he died on January 15, 1955. The condition of his health records held in Sighet penitentiary: ", T.B.C, colitis, hemorrhoids, hernia, defective hearing (operated)".

  29. Constants, Lena (1909-2005)-artist and Ethnologist. It was one of his disciples Professor Dimitrie Gusti, and wife of the Director of the archive of folklore, Harry Brauner. Close to his Lucretius Patrascanu, was involved in the process in which he was convicted. He was arrested in 1948, kept in the survey for several years and convicted by sentence No. 49/14.04.1954 to 12 years labour for murder of high treason. It closed at Miercurea Ciuc, Dumbraveni and issued the sentence runs out on September 14, 1961.

  30. Constantin Titel-Petrescu, (1888-1956)-lawyer and politician. Founder of the Human Rights League (1923) and one of the leaders of social democracy. Chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Romania (1943-1946) and State Secretary Minister in the first Government Sănătescu (representative of the PSD in the Government formed after august 23, 1944). In December 1945 he turned down a merger with Communists, laying the groundwork for an Independent Social-Democratic Party. He was arrested on May 5, 1948 and boarding through administrative decision without any sentence of condemnation on its name. It was not until June 17, 1952 was given notice of the military tribunal of Bucharest which provided for prison life, the crime being passed: "head of the Republic's scheming against the people's Democracy and former Minister Secretary of State." Went through prisons, Jilava and Sighet (room 53) and Râmnicu Sărat. It seems that was issued in September, 1955.

  31. Coposu, Cornel (1914-1995)-head jurist and politician. Former personal Secretary and his political Secretary of Iuliu Maniu. 23 august-November 1944 he was director of the cabinet of Ministers to the Presidency of the Council, and in 1946 he became Deputy general Secretary P.N. a.þ. Awarded the Legion of honour of France, was the Chairman of C.D. P.N. a.þ. during the period 1989-1995. He was arrested on 14 July 1947 and interned, also the entire leadership of the P.N. a.þ. Find the inmate's sentence nr. 876/1955 of the Bucharest military tribunal that sentenced to jail for 15 "high-activity against the working class." Passed through the military prisons, and Uranus through the Malmaison prison he was tortured, Piteşti, Craiova, Gherla, Aiud, Jilava, Râmnicu Sărat, Sighet and through camps and Ghencea, Popeşti-Leordeni and Channel. It was released on July 9, 1962 and was established in the village of Ruble arrest, near Brăila.

  32. Cathcart, George (1882-1973)-plăpumar. One of the leaders of the social-democratic movement in the first decade of the 20th century. The leader of the Socialists of the old Kingdom during the first world war. Member of the first Parliament of Romania. He was the leader of the Socialist Party delegation who signed in Moscow in December 1920, affiliating the Komintern and unconditional first Secretary of the Romanian Communist Party (October 1922-October 1924). Expelled from the party in 1926, social-democratic and remains a close of Constantin Titel-Petrescu. Was admitted to the channel in 1947, 1950 and 1951. In its decision 4/1952 was hospitalized by D.G.S.S. Calimanesti, commencing august 16, for a sentence of 60 months. He also passed through Piteşti prison colonies and at Periprava and Valea Neagră (Peninsula). Although the inmate was issued appears to be 25 April 1953, apparently was issued as late as 1956. What is certain is that in 1956, a security report from the funeral of Constantin Titel-Petrescu mentions among those present. Was "recovered" by Nicolae Ceauşescu, and buried in the Pantheon of Carol Park, where the remains were taken from the family after 1990.

  33. Dascalescu, Nicholas (1884-1969)-career officer. General Corps (from 1942). During World War II he was the Commander of the Army Corps 2 (1941-1944), after which he assumed command of the 3rd Army (1944) and the 4th Army (1945). He was arrested and tried twice, but was not convicted. In total, he spent nearly five years in Communist jails. The first time he was arrested and prosecuted during the period august to October 1946, but the Bucharest Court of Appeal considered that the measures taken by him during the war were justified by military needs. According to reports, the job has been arrested again on 23 November 1951, as a result of the reopening of his case by the Attorney general. Referring to the accusation of war crimes, and in the description of the fact that "gave excessive dispoziţiuni in connection with the application of the laws of war". It was released on October 8, 1955, as a result of the entry into force of the Decree of pardon No. 421/1955, without ever having held a trial.

  34. Camil demetrescu, (1913-1992)-lawyer and diplomat. During World War II, he was deputy director of the cipher in the Foreign Ministry. He was arrested in august, 1947, with the mandate of the No. 105,499, and judged in the process leaders, P.N. and rehabilitating from this position after the Tămădău affair. The region's Court of Bucharest Military sentenced to 15 years jail for heavy "plot and treason", by decision No. 1988. He was imprisoned at Sighet Prison, prisons, Jilava, Râmnicu Sărat, Piteşti and Dej. The release occurred, in 5 October 1962, when he was settled in the commune of arrest the ruble from Bărăgan.

  35. Raymon, Romulus (1905-1975) writer and publicist. Entered the diplomacy, was one of the close aides of Nicolae Titulescu. Radu Gyr, as was arrested and prosecuted journalists in the process. He received a sentence of 20 years imprisonment for heavy "war crime". The transcript appeared as places of detention colonies at Tacloban and the white Gate, as well as the penitentiaries in Craiova and Gherla. It was released on October 10, 1955, in compliance with Decree 421.

  36. Dobzeu, Michael (Dobzeu Mine) (1921-)-Orthodox prelate. He was the spiritual father of Nicolae Steinhardt, whom he baptized while in custody. He was arrested three times, the first time in 1948 because he protested the action taken by the Communists against the Church. Registered card was made on the occasion of the second arrest, which occurred on October 19, 1959. Then he was sentenced to 7 years for conspiracy (article correction. C.P. 209) by decision No. 37/960. It was released on June 24, 1964 in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 310, having passed through the detention he was tortured, at Jilava, Ostrov, Mirpur, Periprava and Gherla.

  37. Dragomir, (1898-1981) was a career officer. Brigadier General (1944), and Professor. He was Minister of Economic Coordination Staff (1940-1941) and the Chief of staff of the 4th Army (1944-1945), led by Marshal Antonescu. His arrest has been issued by the N.K.V.D. While he was running the operations of Czechoslovakia (2 March 1945). He was sent to the U.s.s.r. for investigation and deported to Siberia, returning to the country until January 10, 1957. Meanwhile, he was tried in absentia for People on the basis of the Law Court 312/45 and sentenced to 10 years ' rigorous imprisonment by decision 98/46, for "war crimes".   38. Dragomir, (1888-1962)-history and Transylvanian politician, Member of the Romanian Academy. He was Secretary of the great National Assembly at Alba Iulia in December 1918. In February 1939 and July 1940 was Minister of Minorities. According to reports, the card was arrested by D.G.S.S. on May 6, 1950, in the so-called "night of dignitaries."   40. Daniel, John (1882-1953)-social democratic politician. By profession, Ion Flueraş Wheelwright was one of the leaders of the Socialist movement in Transylvania before 1918, the position in which he defended the rights of workers as part of a national project. He had an important role in the framework of the great National Assembly at Alba Iulia, Dirigent Council after Union (Government) of Transylvania, where she held the health resort. He was part of the delegation that negotiated in Moscow in 1920, joining the international PSD from III, opposing it. It has been 12 years since the President of the General Confederation of labour (1926-1938) and on two occasions. Senator for Braşov in the 1992-1996 legislature, when he was Chairman of the Senate of the events of December 1989 and Prahova in the 1996-2000 legislature.   42. Galerius Constantine (1918-2003)-theologian, priest and confessor. The parish church of St. Sylvester (since 1974) and vicar of the Archdiocese of Bucharest (since 1990). Author of numerous papers and books on Church, father of Galerius was, inter alia, Honorary Chairman of the Cultural League of Romanians everywhere. He was first arrested in 1951 for a period of two months. 15 Aug 1952 was admitted on the basis of the Protocol No. 7 by the DGSS Ploieşti for a period of 60 months on the grounds that he had been a member of the NATIONAL LIBERAL PARTY. He was released on 23 October 1953 by the order No. 0220178 of DLCM, as a result of MSS address no. 00610207. During the two periods of detention passed through the prison and he was tortured by the colonies from the Peninsula, and Valea Neagră Galeş.

  43. Vasile Georgescu (Richard Wurmbrand) (1909-2001)-Lutheran pastor. Former Communist militant, with political studies in Moscow, the State ideology for which closed in the 1930s. Jew, he converted to Christianity, defending the rights of the Church in front of Communists, which is why he was imprisoned. Gone from Romania through redemption in 1965, denounced the atrocities committed by the Communist authorities in the face of a Senate Commission.   44. Vlad Georgescu (1937-1988)-historian. In Romania was a researcher at the Institute of South-East European Studies in Bucharest, in the Communist authorities for his case of Romanian Communists (1944-1977). He left the country for a fellowship of Woodrow Wilson Center, reaching out to teach at univeristăţile Maryland and Rutgers. Back in Europe he worked for radio free Europe in 1982, associate director of the Department, and since 1983 director to 1988, when he died of cancer. There are those who argue that the disease occurs as a result of irradiation by security. He was arrested on March 30, 1977, on the basis of mandate no. 26 issued by the Military Prosecution for treason under article. 157/2 of the Penal Code.   45. Onisifor ghibu (1883-1972)-Professor and politician. Doctor of philosophy and pedagogy in Jena with a rich publishing activity, both in the press and by specialty. Titular member of the Romanian Academy. During World War I he fought in all the Romanian provinces for national unity, is named after 1 December 1918 Minister of Instruction the Dirigent. He was arrested in 1945 for several months and released. On 17 December 1956 was issued on behalf of its mandate for arrest No. 79 of the UM/0198 for instigating public unrest, under Article 327 BHP.   46. Vladimir Ghica (1873-1954)-diplomat, writer and a Greek Catholic priest. Prince Ghica is the nephew of the son of the last ruler of Moldavia Grigore Alexandru Ghica (Gregory V Ghica). With a rich charity activity and Apostolic, Monsignor Alexandru Ghica was the first priest to whom the Pope granted him the right to officiate services both in latin and Byzantine rite.   48. Paul Goma (1935-)-writer, dissident and anti-Communist militant. The best known opponent of the regime as much as it was found in country and after he was forced to emigrate to France. Author of numerous books, including "birthpangs" Ostinato "," or "Rainbow" Color. In 1977 he joined the movement "Charta 77", initiated in Czechoslovakia, pointing through his gesture more stubs, which is why he was forced to leave the country.   49. Louie Victor (1882-1960)-surgeon. One of the pioneers of medicine, Professor, Dr. Galvin is considered the founder of the Romanian School of medical history. He founded the Centre for Ethnographic Studies for public health in South-Eastern Europe, and in 1930 he was the President of the World Society for the history of medicine. Knight of the Legion of honor (1922) and Health Minister (1940), he was the physician of Queen-Mother Helen. With the coming to power of the Communists were excluded from education, marginalized and subsequently arrested.   50. Teodor greceanu (1917-1995)-Aviation Officer. Lieutenant Gamboa was one of the most successful fighter pilots of Romania during World War II, with over 370 combat missions on both the eastern front and the Western front. For his deeds of arms, among which we should mention more than 20 aircraft shot down on the eastern front, he has received numerous awards and accolades both military and civilian, the most important being the order of Michael the brave 3rd Class and "Aeronautical Virtue" Class golden cross with Two Swords. He was arrested on 4 March 1949 and sentenced by the Military Court of Bucharest Department II by decision No. 699/950 to 10 years jail for heavy machination (art. 209 HP). Description of the fact that the show was part of a revolutionary organization. Together with two other prisoners escaped in Aiud, registering the first such successful attempt in the history of the prison.   51. Halipa Pantelimon (1883-1979)-poet and publicist. The main promoter and animator of the Union movement in Bessarabia, which resulted in Union with Romania in 1918. Director of the newspaper Cuvânt moldovenesc, he published numerous articles and studies which show Romania and Bessarabia with connection for connection. He worked in most Romanian literary and journalistic projects which have succeeded beyond the Prut River at the beginning of the 20th century. As with other arrested in this lot, registered card is generalized one. In 1952 it was handed over to the Soviet authorities, which have established guilt of spying and punishment. After three years of detention in Siberian camps, was sent back to the country directly from prison, where he was released on 11 October 1957, by pardon.

  52. Emil haţieganu (1878-1959)-jurist. Doctor of law, Professor and rector at the University of Cluj, he came from a family that gave him the Romanian physician Iuliu Haţieganu (founder of the University of medicine and pharmacy in Cluj) and lawyer Eugen Hatieganu. All three had made political prison during the Communist regime. Ruler of the Union movement, he was a member of the national Romanian Party and, subsequently, of the Peasant. A Deputy and a senator, a Cabinet Minister in several cabinets ţărăniste, including Minister of State for Transylvania, was one of two Ministers without portfolio in the first Groza Government, who represented historical parties trying to prevent the growth of communist influence. He was arrested in November 1948 with the mandate no. 8727 by Cluj for Security offense to Law 249/47 (use of appropriations) and sentenced to 2 years ' correction by decision No. 1584 of the Court of Justice in Cluj.   53. Iuliu HOSSU (1885-1970)-a Greek Catholic priest.   55. Ion ioanid (1926-2003)-writer, announcer of radio "free Europe". The son of former Secretary of State at the Interior Ministry, Sammy Ray, Ray is his godson Octavian Goga, who was Godfather of baptism. Editor of the "free Europe" since 1970, he is the author of the well-known monograph of the Romanian Gulag Prison "our days". Expelled in year three of the origin, was arrested and briefly held by police in 1949 for an alleged espionage action actually helping a relative few to send letters abroad. Three years later, with "finding", was arrested for the same offence ("he transcribed notices his Gaiger, which Baer providing a foreign powers"). He was interned by the DGSS Pitesti on 19 September 1952, by order No. 100,252 and convicted by sentence No. 76/952 of the Bucharest territorial High Court to 20 years of forced labour for complicity in the crime of high treason (art. 191 HP). He managed to escape on 6 June 1953 from forced labor camp located in the lead mines of Cavnic, being caught and intellectually matched only in November the same year. The transcript appears and punishment of 5 years correctional offences against public tranquility, likely received as a result of the escape. He also appears and decision No. 44/961 of Regional Military Tribunal, whereby is sentenced to 20 years of forced labour for the crime of conspiracy (article. 209 HP).   56. Yellow-(1926-)-politician, civil engineer by profession. As a member of the youth organization of the PNŢ participated in anti-Communist rallies in November 1945 and may 1946. During the Communist regime he took part, along with Corneliu Coposu and Ion Diaconescu, Victor Coconeţi, a group of former ţărănişti who continued to keep in touch and meet regularly with the hope of a restoration of the party. In 1989 he was elected Vice-President of the PNŢ, acting as a main contributor to his Principality within the party. Deputy head in 1996. He was arrested in 1947, as a political activist (art. 227 HP) and sentenced to 5 years jail sentence and heavy through no. 242/28.02.1948 of Section II of the Bucharest military tribunal.   57. Mircea Ionescu-Quintus (1917-)-politician, a lawyer by profession. LIBERAL Member ever since the 1930s, after the revolution, he was elected Vice-President (1990-1992) and then Chairman (1992-2001) of the party. Between 2002 and 2006 was Honorary Chairman of the NATIONAL LIBERAL PARTY, a position from which he chose to resign because he was awarded the CNSAS police policy makers. He held the portfolio of Minister of Justice in the Government of Stolojan (1991-1992) and the positions of Vice President and then President of the Senate in the 1996-2000 legislature. In his capacity as a former war veteran, received in April 2009, the rank of brigadier general in retreat under a presidential decree. He was arrested on several occasions.   58. Ioniţoiu Taka (Landau) (1924-)-anti-Communist opponent. PNŢ member since 1943 and the leader of the youth farm in Oltenia, which he was to organize in June 1945. Close the group after leaving prison Coposu managed to leave the country in 1979 and in exile to hold the party, whose Secretary general was elected. He has published numerous volumes about the Romanian Gulag, among which the former political prisoners, dictionary titled "victims of communist terror" and "Tombs without cross." Since 1945 he was arrested and held by police numerous times, the most important being the sentence of 5 years in 1949. Matrciolă sheet recorded the arrest of 8 May 1961, when, by sentence No. 29/63 was sentenced to 6 years for correction machination. Although he was released on 28 July 1964 decree 411, continued to be pursued and intimidated by Security throughout the period during which it remains in the country.   59. Ilango Nagar (Vladimir Sahu) (1902-1970)-writer, literary critic and University Professor. Doctor of letters and philosophy, he was member and politician, and a Deputy of the PNŢ. Editor and Publisher to numerous magazines, including the magazine of the Royal Foundations, led from 1943 magazine "Kalende (Kalends)". Is one of our great literary critics. Sidelined since the Communists coming to power, he was arrested and ultimately convicted with the lot, like Noica-Pillat group member intellectually animated. He was detained on 12 September 1959 and sentenced to 7 years for conspiracy sentence correction through no. 24/960 by the military tribunal of Region II. It was released on October 4, 1962, by decision No. 772/962, after having passed through the prison at Jilava and Botoşani.

  60. Dumitru iuga (1942-)-anti-Communist dissident. He worked as a job on television. In the early 1980s he founded an anti-Communist organization, entitled "movement for freedom and social justice from Romania". He was arrested on 11 September 1983 on the basis of mandate no. 56 issued direction for Procuraturilor Military plot, according to art. 167 HP. In describing the scene reads that "between May and august 1983 initiated a subversive group which had proposed aim at conducting anti democratic and change the Socialist system of our country." Through sentence nr. 26/84 was sentenced to 12 years in prison, the punishment reduced to 6 years by decision No. 11/88. He was imprisoned at Jilava and Aiud from, but what stands out from its card is the large number of removals in custody they had during detention, including three times at Jilava prison hospital. It was released on September 9, the term 1989, being detained and then on 12 December 1989 and released on 22nd, during the revolution.

  61. Jienescu Gheorghe (1895-1971)-career officer. General aviator, George Jienescu was one of the pioneers of aviation, having won numerous premieres, some of which may be quoted in international law. During World War II, he served as a foot soldier, and was decorated with the star of Romania with Crown and swords. After the war he was elected the officers sent to take aviation courses in the West in order to meet the new needs of the army, in which he excelled, advancing rapidly. In 1935 he led air raid-Capetown, an important event in the history of aviation in view of the types of apparatus used and conditions. Colonel, was appointed at the helm of the 1940s, as Chief of staff of the Air Force Command, holding the post of Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of national defense, for air and Marine. Right after august 23, 1944 was sacked and put under guard at the home of the new authorities, to pressure the Soviets. He was tried in February 1946, as part of the 17 Ministers of the Governments. He was convicted by sentence No. from august 1948 to 15197 20 years jail for heavy war crime. He was pardoned on April 18, 1964, by decision No. 176 of the State Council.   63. Jovin Ion (1899-1994)-doctor. He is considered the founder of Oncology and radiotherapy, laying the groundwork for the first specialized center hospital Colţea. He was a professor at the University of Bucharest's Faculty of medicine and President of the Romanian society of Radiology. Was incorporated in 1950 and interned by the DGSS Bucharest with Order No. 66324/952, being placed at the disposal of the Bucharest territorial Military Prosecution. He was sentenced to 25 years of forced labour for high treason (article. 190 HP) through sentence nr. 160/23.01.1951 of the military tribunal.   65. Krasnosselski Vladimir (1924-1991)-sociologist and politician. Professor, was until the last moments of the democratic regime Secretary Constatin Titel-Petrescu, one of the relatives of the last social democratic leader ante.   66. Ilie lazăr (1895-1976), jurist, doctor of law; the national politician-head. One of the most active participants in the great Union of Alba Iulia, as the organizer of the National Guard and of the administration of the County Satu Mare. It was, among other things, PNŢ (1928-1932) and Minister Secretary of State. He was arrested on several occasions, first in 1946 for a short period, in order not to be able to participate in the elections. Final arrest occurred in July 1947, with the mandate of the No. 105459/47, being involved in the process of ţărănişti leaders whom he has been fleeing the country înscenată the Tămădău affair. Through sentence nr. 1988/47 the Court-the Department's military was sentenced to 12 years ' jail for treason and plot heavy.   67. Leucuţia Aurel (1895-1964)-jurist, doctor of law; the national politician-head. An active campaigner for the unification of Transylvania with Romania, he was Secretary of the National Council and one of his closest Iuliu Maniu. PNŢ in two Deputy presidencies (1928-1930 and 1932-1933) and Minister of national economy in the Sănătescu Government, and second in the Government of General Rădescu. Among other things, was the first President of the Romanian Football Federation (1930-1933). He was arrested on July 14, 1947, together with other leaders, ţărănişti, although the mandate of arrest was registered in 1954. The data contained in the six sheets are extremely blurry. At fault was the activity against the working class, laid down in article 21. in fact, P.o.box 193 was detained almost four years without being judged. As late as 1950 we find a decision of admission for two years, starting in 1951, which in 1953 is raised to 60 months. After having passed through Sighet prison, he was tortured and as well as through the colony from Johannesburg, was released on 21 December 1955 through Address No. the Bucharest Military Prosecutor's Office of the 6809, but only to ascertain arrest in Bărăgan until the amnesty of 1964.

  68. Luca Vasile (Luka Laszlo) (1898-1963)-ceferist worker, professional locksmith. Even if for reasons easy to understand (former senior communist dignitary) cannot be classified to the category of political prisoners than formal case of Vasile Luca's one emblematic for the Communists once victims of the regime that they themselves have created. Member of the ROMANIAN COMMUNIST PARTY still young, closed for many years for his beliefs in the previous regimes, it was one of the most "healthy" folders in 1945. He arrived, in fact, a member of the Secretariat, a Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Finance (1947-1952). In the struggle for power inside the party since the early 50 's, was however in Hercegovina, which is why he was arrested in 1952 and involved in right-wing deviation. He was held by police for more than two years and was convicted by Judgement No. 180/954 of the Supreme Court. For intense activity against the working class he was originally sentenced to death, later commuted the sentence on forced labour for life.   69. Lugoşianu Ion (1890-1957)-jurist and political scientist with graduate studies in France. National Party leaders close in Transylvania, he was technical advisor to the Romanian delegation at the peace conference in Paris in 1919. He was member of several legislatures, Minister of public instruction (1930) and of industry and trade (1932-1933). He had a significant career as a diplomat, consular services organisation in the USA and Canada, being numerous times a delegate to the League of Nations, as well as Ambassador to the Vatican. Among others, he was director of the newspaper and "Universe". He was arrested in 1949 and sentenced by sentence No. 1067/50 Bucharest Military Tribunal for crimes of high treason ("had ties to anglo-Americans") to forced labour for life. After having gone through arrest MORE, through hospital-prison at Jilava and Văcăreşti prison, through Aiud, Piteşti and Gherla, passed away on November 7, 1957 in Râmnicu Sărat due to a "cardiovascular collapse."

  70. Lupaş Ion (1880-1967)-Professor, Ph.d. in history and philosophy. One of the most prominent scholars in Transylvania, Lupaş was Professor, and founder of the Romanian magazine "the morning star". He is the founder of the Institute of national history in Cluj (1920) and was for many years Chairman of the Department of history of the Romanian Academy. A member of the country's Great Tip (1918), was called after the Union, public instruction Secretary with the Dirigent, provisional Government of Transylvania. In politics, he was a member of the League of the people and of political formations led by Octavian Goga, mp, Minister of health (1926-1927) and the Religion (1937-1938). He was arrested on May 5, 1950, in "night head", and imprisoned at Sighet prison. According to reports, the job has no decision of condemnation, being practically owned arbitrary 5-year weather.

  71. Măcellariu Habib (1894-)-Navy officer, Admiral of the Romanian army. A graduate of the school of war and of the Centre of advanced studies in Shipbuilding. Starting in 1939, he held the highest military positions on the line: Navy Chief-of-staff (1939-1942), Commander of the 1st Squadron of destroyers (1942-1943) and the Naval Forces of the country (1943-1944), because since 1944 to drive higher schools. After coming to power of the Communists in 1945, has been one of the leaders of the resistance, trying to organize an overthrow of their rise to power. He was sentenced to forced labour for life in 1946, in absentia, for participation in the National Resistance Movement. He was caught and arrested as late as 1948, when, by sentence No. 1843/48 of the Bucharest military tribunal was sentenced to 25 years prison for heavy fascist organization, namely the attempt against the State's safety. He remained incarcerated until the general amnesty of 1964 (Decree 411), passing through prisons, Jilava, Râmnicu Sărat and Gherla.

  72. Marino A. (1921-2005)-literary critic, doctor of Philology. Former Assistant of George Călinescu. PNŢ Member, was arrested in 1949 and sentenced to 10 years jail for conspiracy against the heavy social order through the sentence of 19 October 1950 in 979. It was held in Jilava prison, Oradea and Caransebes, but also in labor colonies Periprava and Lozells. He was released in February 1957, but was established in the Bărăgan, home to the Lăteşti, being pardoned in 1964.

  73. Istrate micescu (1881-1951), lawyer, Professor and politician. One of the most famous lawyers of the period, he was a member, on behalf of which he was three times elected a Deputy, and appointed Foreign Minister (1937-1938). With authoritarian and anti-Semitic views stated (in his capacity as Foreign Minister, served as said, referring to the Jews: "it is urgent to us măturăm Court, because it is useless to tolerate all this garbage to us"). He was a member of the Christian national party-and the person tasked by King Carol II with drafting the Constitution for his personal dictatorship regime. He also took part in the Government as Minister Tătărescu, Justice (1939-1940), he was arrested and sentenced in July 1947 through sentence nr. 1025/948 to 20 years jail for plot heavy and rebel.   74. Ion MIHALACHE (1882-1963)-teacher, politician. Is the founder of the Peasant's Party (1918), which in 1926 will merge with the national party, the national peasants ' Party forming.   75. Negroponte Sanda (1919-2009)-the daughter of Gheorghe Tătărescu, Sanda Negroponte he studied musicology and interior decoration, without making them complete. He was arrested for the simple fact that she was the daughter of a former senior official.   76. Ion Nistor (1876-1962), historian; Professor and politician. Doctor in history and academician (since 1915)-director of the Academy's Library (1945-1947), he was the rector of the University of Iaşi from 1933-1940. Member of the National Council of Bukovina proclaimed Union in 1918. Member of the NATIONAL LIBERAL PARTY which became a senator for life, since 1937, Ion Nistor occupied the chairs of labour and the Minister of religious affairs in two Liberal governments. He was arrested, interned without a court decision, in "night head" (5-6 May 1950) and detained at Sighet prison until 1955, when it was brought to the prison and, following Malmaison survey that was released.

  77. Lucian town (1937-)-electrical engineer, graduated in economics and political science; doctor in philosophy. He was arrested in 1956 for supporting the revolution in Hungary. He was convicted by sentence No. 758/57 for agitation (327 p.o.box) at 10 years. Owned in Văcăreşti prison, Jilava and Gherla, Dej, was issued on the basis of the Decree 411, in 1964. After 1977, he managed to leave Romania addressing international forums, who lobbied to be granted a passport. Departing the United States, where he attended the universities Harvard and Colombia, Charlottesville and became general Secretary of the National Council for the American Department. Returned to the country in 1994, presidential candidate in the year 2000.

  78. Anthony Valenzuela (1900-1962), historian and politician. Professor, specialist in the history of the Balkan peoples. He founded and headed the Institute for Balkan Studies and research (1938-1947) and the magazine "Balcania" (1938-1945). The leader of the National Liberal Party, was one of the relatives of Gheorghe Brătianu. As a member of P.N.L. He was elected Deputy of Kaliakra in 1932, and in 1944-1945 he worked as a Cabinet Minister, Secretary of State at the Ministry of national education.   79. Victor Papilian (1888-1956)-physician and man of culture. Passionate about music and literature, he graduated from the Conservatory and wrote several novels, short stories and plays. Moreover, he was director of the National Theatre (1928) and the Philharmonic in Cluj-Napoca (1934-1938). At the insistence of the family but has embraced medical career. It has been noted especially as Professor of medicine in Cluj, where he was director of the Institute of Anatomy of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Superior Dacia and then Dean of the same Faculty.   81. Lucretius Patrascanu (1900-1954)-lawyer and politician. One of the oldest Communist leaders at the time of the august 1944. He became a Communist in his youth, being a member of the Communist Party since 1919. In the 1930s he was one of the most important and most visible Communist leaders: in 1922 and 1928 he participated on behalf of the ROMANIAN COMMUNIST PARTY congresses, the Comintern as a member of the Central Committee of the party, he was arrested for Communist activities, but he was also a Deputy on behalf of Peasant workers ' Bloc (1931) or the Communists accused in various lawsuits in the 1930s. As Communist leader acknowledged took active part in the plot for the removal of Marshal Ion Antonescu, in august 1944, or from signing the peace treaty in Paris. At the same time as Justice Minister in Governments that followed, he contributed decisively to the establishment of the Communist dictatorship.   82. Samuel Nicholas (1895-1982)-lawyer, jurist and politician. The professionally made a career worthy of noting, after his legal studies in the capital of France reaching the President of the Union of bars in Romania. He was a member of the national peasants ' Party, from which he was Deputy Interior Minister in the second Government Sănătescu (November-December 1945). Also, starting in 1947, he served as Secretary of the PNŢ. Basically, he was imprisoned from 1947 until 1964, with a break of 4 years (1955-1959), when he was with the arrest in the Bărăgan. The first time he was arrested as a result of the "înscenării de la Tămădău", where along with several PNŢ leaders attempted to leave the country, and imprisoned at Sighet prison and Craiova. Then he was rearrested on august 28, 1959 and sentenced to 10 years by a military Tribunal correction (Judgment 107/960) for conspiracy (article. 209 HP). He was released in July 1964 as a result of the Decree of pardon of 411 political prisoners. Even after leaving the country in 1968, had suffered because of the Communist regime, being known assassination attempt which occurred on him in February 1981.

  83. Savel rădulescu (1895-1970), lawyer and career diplomat, politician. He entered the diplomacy in 1921. He worked long as private Secretary of Nicolae Titulescu, including the League of Nations, and was one of his diplomatic consultants Iuliu Maniu. In the period 1932-1936 he served as Under-Secretary of State at the Foreign Ministry, and in 1938 he joined the national Renaissance Front, although it remained a close ţărănişti leaders and was considered a representative of the PNŢ. Immediately after removal of the Marshal Antonescu to power, he was appointed Chairman of the Commission for the implementation of the Truce, which was part of Romania's delegation and from the peace Congress in Paris in 1946. He was arrested in 1948 and held by police for three years, until 1951 with-is decision No. 334 through who was hospitalized for 24 months, a punishment increased by 60 months, by decision No. 559/953.   84. Şerban rădulescu-Zoner (1929-)-historian and politician. A member of the liberal youth in the years 1945-1947. After 1989, he was Deputy CDR (1992-1996) of the Civic Alliance Party, Member since 1996 and NLP. In September 2000, refusing to cooperate with the new leadership of the party, became an independent. In March 2001, is President of the civic Alliance, whose member was from 1996. After almost 11 years in which he managed to hide from security, he was arrested in February 1959.   85. Elisabeth Radziwill (1912-2003)-thanks to a strong mediatizări, if Elisabeth Radziwill became a symbol of the 1989 Romanian resistance against communism.   86. Mihail romniceanu (1891-1960)-lawyer and politician. Member of the National Liberal Party, from which he was Finance Minister in the second Government Sănătescu and Nicolae Rădescu Government. According to reports, sheets was hospitalized at Jilava penitentiary with order No. 3856/950, coming from Craiova penitentiary. Four years later (1.10.1954) is registered with the mandate to arrest 33/C issued by the Directorate-General for prosecution action against the working class (article. 193 HP) "during the bourgeoisie". For this he was condemned by the Tribunal of Region II, by decision No. 9/1957, to 12 years jail, framed to high treason. It was owned in Văcăreşti prison and Sighet, Râmnicu Sărat, where he died on 13 February 1960.

  87. Dezideriu sîrbu, i. (1919-1989)-Professor, writer. Better known by his literary pen name, I.D. Sîrbu, originated from a family of miners from the JIU Valley, formed in the atmosphere from the Sibiu Literary Circle, whose intellectual model was Lucian Blaga. The Communist Party underground, and on the eastern front, the war against the Soviet Union, he gets, at 27 years old, the youngest Professor in the country, during the years that followed, his assistant Laila Rahman at Cluj University and doctorate Lucian Blaga. He was arrested in September 1957 for events to address hostile Communist regime: favorable reviews of the 1956 revolution in Hungary, veiled criticism at the address of the Romanian-Soviet ventures and, apparently, even refusing a slanderous denunciation against Lucian Blaga. It was originally sentenced to 1 year in prison correctional facility (Judgment No. 13/58 the Court Region II), later supplemented with the sentence as early as 7 years (Judgement No. 1250/58, for "conspiracy"). After a detention at Jilava, Gherla, Willow, and Periprava, Mirpur, Stoenesti was pardoned and released the Decree 5/96, working during the first year after the liberation as a miner vagonetar from Padilla. There are voices that claim that his life experience was the inspiration for the character of Pagal novel "the most beloved of the native".

  88. Victor Slăvescu (1891-1977), economist and politician. Doctorate in economics and philosophy, obtained in Germany, Victor Slăvescu was best known for his professional career. During the interwar period it was the Romanian Bank subdirectory as managing director of National Industrial Credit Company (1935). From 1925 until 1947 he was a professor at the Academy for High commercial and Industrial Studies in Bucharest (Academy of Economics Studies), and 1936 (correspondent member) was part of the team working on the Romanian Academy, of which he became a member in 1939. Among other things, was Chairman of the General Association of economists from Romania (1930-1937) and the General Union of Industrialists (1937). Also in 1936, he was elected administrator of the National Bank. As a politician, he was a member of the National Liberal Party, from which he was elected lawmaker six times (1927-1940), once as a senator, as a representative of the Guild's industrialists. In the years 1934-1935 he was Minister of finance, and from 1939-1940, he served as Minister for army equipment. After the Communist regime was removed from public life and professional was imprisoned in June 1950, along with the so-called ' batch of officials ". Registered card on his criminal name of Communist authorities does not contain than identity data, proof of the fact that he was arrested on the basis of a simple administrative order, without being judged. He was released in July 1955, just as he was arrested, a simple order of Ministry of Internal Affairs, being held only in Sighet prison. In the years that followed was bent solely on scientific research, particularly in large-scale economic history, an impressive number of works, overwhelmingly placed in the manuscript.

  89. Dumitru stăniloae (1903-1993)-Orthodox priest and theologian. PhD in theology at Chernivtsi, specialized in dogmatic in Athens, Munich and Berlin. Although he was ordained priest in 1932 being, among others, and Adviser to the Archbishopric of Sibiu in the 1930s, he is best known as a theologian, especially for translation work "the Holy life of the Philokalia completion", on which he worked for more than 40 years and which has been published in 12 volumes. He was a professor at the Theological Academy in Sibiu, "Andreiană" (1929), whose rector was between 1936 and 1946. In 1947 he was transferred as a professor at the University of Bucharest's Faculty of theology. He was arrested in September 1958 to attend meetings of the movement of the "burning Bush", as he was sentenced, by decision No. 125/58 the Court Region II Military Bucharest 5 years forced labour for "conspiracy" (article. C.P. 209). He was released in 1963, being pardoned in January of the same year by Decree 5/63, after a detention which he wore through the Jilava and Aiud prisons. After his release, he worked first as a clerk of the Holy Synod, later returning to University Department. Theological activity was recognized by numerous invitations to lecture overseas, where it has received various honorary titles at Paris and London particularly. After 1989, he was elected to the Romanian Academy, first as an associate member (1990) and then of honor (1991).

  90. Steinhardt, o. (1912-1989)-lawyer, writer and publicist, tonsured at the end of life. Born into the family of a Jewish entrepreneur, Nicolae Steinhardt has been integrated since the new intelligentsia, youth courses "Spiru Haret" high school, where he was a classmate with Dinu Pillat, Romanian philosopher Constantin Noica, Mircea Eliade Arşavir Acterian or. Drawn to literature, he attended cenaclul "Following", Eugen Lovinescu, debuting in 1934 with a pamphlet ("In like … young people"), and in 1936 became a PhD in constitutional law.   91. Tabani, Alexander (1894-1964), lawyer and writer. Ionel Teodoreanu's brother, he is more commonly known under the pseudonym of W.c. fields. Even though the only flashing with this nickname has made a career of literary media and in public life in Interwar Romania, which included especially his satires (epigrams, poems, fairy tales, essays), of which the best known is the novel "Is Additional măscăriciului". In good measure, his propensity for political and social satire, which has never ceased to express themselves or during the Communist era, was the one who brought him arrest. This occurred in October 1959, when he was sentenced to 6 years of correction by the Court of the region II Military Bucharest, for "conspiracy" (article. C.P. 209).   92. Alexandru todea (1912-2002)-a Roman Catholic prelate. Doctor of theology of the College "De Propaganda Fide" in Rome in 1940, Alexandru Todea is known in particular for his work on pastoral, especially during and after release from prison. Since 1939 he was ordained a priest at the Vatican, and then once back in the country, the metropolitan was appointed Secretary (1940), later a professor at the Catholic schools in Transylvania and Archpriest at cultus Lake. His advancement in the Church hierarchy has occurred mostly after the onset of the Communist persecution of the Roman Catholic Church, declared illegal in 1948. This was the basic reason for which he was arrested, that ignoring the administrative decision concerning the prohibition, and continued his pastoral activity, constituting only the crime itself ("religious activity against laws"). He was arrested in January 1951 and, after a prevention (IP) for over a year, was sentenced by the decision No. 104/952 CFI II Region Military Bucharest, 25-year-old Labour (case Prosecutor demanded the death sentence, and the initial conviction was that of forced labour for life) for the "crime of high treason, public agitation and use of forgery". It was released in 1964, with the majority of the political prisoners, through Decree No. 411 after a detention during which he was imprisoned at Sighet prison, Jilava, Râmnicu Sărat, Piteşti, Gherla, he was tortured. In 1986 he was elected Metropolitan of the Romanian Church United with Rome, the position in which it was confirmed and after 1989, Vatican institution in 1991, raised him to the rank of cardinal of the Catholic Church.

  93. William Totok, (1951-)-writer and journalist. Having studied German studies and romance languages from the University of Timişoara, William Totok was drawn to literature, which is why he made his debut, still young (1970), with lyrics in German language publications from Banat (mostly in the "Neue Literatur"). On the basis of University studies, he was a Professor of German and Romanian language in timis County, and in the 1980s, he worked as editor of a German newspaper in Timisoara. In 1972 he was one of the founders of action group, an initiative more than a suspect in the eyes of the Communist authorities. For this reason, on 18 November 1975, he was arrested and held by police for eight months (until 29 June 1976), being accused of "propaganda against the system" (article. C.P. 166). In 1987 he emigrated to West Germany, where he became a civic activist and writer, is a member of several initiatives relating to Eastern Europe and human rights. Among other things, he worked at the Radio station free Europe (he also collaborated and the BBC and Deutsche Welle, Radio France Internationale) and was part of the International Commission for the study of the Holocaust in Romania.

  94. Vasile voiculescu (1884-1963)-physician and writer. Known and appreciated especially for its work, in particular literary poetry, Vasile Voiculescu was a good physician psihopatolog, taking his doctorate at the Faculty of Medicine of Bucharest (1910) and practicing this trade including as military physician in World War I. However, he began his university studies at the Faculty of letters and philosophy, literature and thus the career will go mainly later and where he debuted in 1912 at the magazine Convorbiri literare. Gandirist, part of active especially during the interwar period, he collaborated with poems in numerous magazines, publishing as much. In 1918 he received Academy Award (whose post-mortem member was elected in 1993), and in 1941 the National Prize of poetry. Being associated immediate group of the "burning Bush", was arrested on 5 august 1958 for "conspiracy against the social system" (article. C.P. 209). In the same year, by decision No. 125 the Court Region of Bucharest's military, was sentenced to 5 years jail, being released four years later, in April 1962, through Decree No. 291. Due to the age and conditions of detention (he was imprisoned at Jilava and Aiud), died exactly a year after his release.

  95. Richard Wurmbrand (1909-2001)-Lutheran pastor. As a young man, lured by promises of communist doctrine, headed by the Communist Party, illegal in Romania. Followed even attending political schools in Moscow (1927-1929), and was imprisoned in the early 1930s for his ideological beliefs. In the mid-1930s, with the illusions that you gave, it's communism and espouse militant Christianity, Jewish by birth. He began his Ministry now Lutheran Christianity, for which, moreover, have to be arrested during the Communist regime. First, he was arrested and detained in February 1948 until 1956.   96. Zilbert Herbert (1901-1978)-economist and journalist. Without a precise qualification, formalised in an educational institution, Babs Zilber, as is generally known, has built a career related to the two areas in particular by his native intelligence and culture gained especially as self-taught, but also by cultivating relationships with friendliness and intellectual personalities of the public life of Izmail. Thus, in the 1920s, has managed to become an expert at the Ministry of war, and, in 1932, one of the makers of the Institute of conjuncture, led by Virgil Madgearu, and a contributor to numerous publications including hard left. However, through Communist beliefs, he remained best known for its proximity to the Lucretius Patrascanu and for the role played in the process by which he was convicted and executed in 1954, illustrating very well the arbitrary repression of the Communist side, which has not bypassed any own militants. Since 1928, it seems that he was recruited as an agent of influence in support for the Soviet cause, which he promoted in the press and through activities within the various organisations of the Communist-inspired (Using Romanian workers '-' Red Aid '), which was closed during the period 1931-1933 for espionage. After august 23, 1944 he became the director of the Institute of conjuncture and Professor of political economy at the University of Bucharest, after previously had taken their Ph.d. at the Faculty of philosophy. Approaching Patrascanu, one of the losers struggle for power inside the P.M.R., resulted in his arrest in 1948. After a prevention for over 5 years, was sentenced by the Supreme Court-the military College of R.S.R., by decision No. 49, to forced labour for life for the "crime against peace" (Act 291/47). He was released along with the bulk of political prisoners in 1964, having been pardoned by Presidential Decree No. 411, after 17 years in which he was imprisoned at Jilava prison, Piteşti, Aiud, Gherla and.

  97. Alexandru Zub (1934-)-historian. Teacher of the University ". Ioan Cuza "Iasi, Zub was teacher, beginning with 1989, director of the Institute of history, A.D. Xenopol". In 1991 he was elected corresponding member and in 2004 Member of the Romanian Academy, whose historic Ward leads since 2006. Like other political prisoners, he was arrested and convicted for "conspiracy against the working class", the decision taken by the Iaşi military tribunal under no. 299/1958. In fact, he was convicted of organizing, in 1957, of a student events, ocazionată the completion of the 500 anniversary of the enthronement of Stephen the great.
