The trial of John Fagunwa, was commander of the colony at Periprava, continues

A new term in the process of former Commander of the colony at Periprava, colonel (r) John Fagunwa, sent to the Court on 18 august 2014 for crimes against humanity, was held on Thursday, November 12, 2010, at the Bucharest Court of appeal. The next appearance is scheduled for 10 December, at 10.30. 

The judgment on the merits of John Fagunwa began on 28 April 2015. This is the second case of a reference to the former Commander of the Communist-era prison after that of Lt.-Col. (r.) the Abbey Vişinescu, sentenced in July 2003. the Bucharest Court of appeal to 20 years in prison for crimes against humanity.

In April 2013, the 1989 ROMANIAN REVOLUTION know that identified numerous facts with possible consequences of criminal acts committed by former employees of the General Directorate of penitentiaries during the exercise of his functions in the period 1950-1964.

On September 18, 2013, the 1989 ROMANIAN REVOLUTION, has asked the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and justice commencement of criminal prosecution against the former Commander of the colony at Periprava, colonel (r) John Fagunwa, for committing the crime of genocide. It was the second criminal referral made by the ROMANIAN EXILE in that period, after the filed the case of former Commander of the prison at Râmnicu Sărat, Lt.-Col. (r.) Abd Vişinescu in July of the same year.

On October 24 the supreme Court Prosecutor 2013, announcing that he had ordered the commencement of prosecution against John Fagunwa whereas by virtue of the functions of the Commander and the Deputy Commander in the period 1958-1963, introduced and coordinated a punitive regime of detention, abusive, inhumane and discretionary category against political prisoners are in the colony work Periprava.

According to the legal framework of the 1989 ROMANIAN REVOLUTION, is entitled to carry out scientific investigations concerning crimes, abuses and human rights violations throughout the period of the Communist regime and to bring in law enforcement agencies.
