IICCMER, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, organizes the national contest for highschool students “A Day in Communism: Pages from a <<Secret>> Diary” („O zi in comunism: file de jurnal «secret»”). The contest aims to encourage students to use their imagination and creativity to write an essay on the above mentioned topic in the form of an entry from a personal diary.
Thus, the participants must choose a day from the 1944 – 1989 period and refer to the way the communist regime influenced people’s lives. Among the topics that can be covered are the events related to the communization process, the armed anticommunist resistance movements, the repression against the opponents of the regime, the extermination camps, the collectivization, the Hungarian revolution of 1956, the release of the political prisoners, the industrialization process, the 1968 event, the everyday life in communism, the dissidence, the 1989 events as well as other topics related to the history of the Romanian communism.
This project aims to increase the young people’s interest in the recent history of Romania by stimulating personal research and reflection over a period in history that still influences the evolution and development of the Romanian society. The contest is addressed to high schools students in Romania. The winners will participate in the Summer School of Făgăraș – Sâmbăta de Sus (for students in grades 9 – 11) and the Summer University of Râmnicu Sărat (for high school graduates).
The deadline for submitting the essays: May 17th, 2014.
Summer School from Făgăraș – Sâmbăta de Sus will take place during July 9th – 16th, 2014.
